Fondren Middle School, located in southwest Houston, opened its doors in 1966 to serve the growing community in the area. The school is named after Walter W. Fondren, a prominent Houston oilman and philanthropist. Mr. Fondren played a significant role in the development of Houston during the early 20th century and was known for his commitment to public service and education.
The Fondren family owned extensive land holdings in southwest Houston, and after the school was constructed, they generously donated additional land to the Houston Independent School District. This land was used to build an access road to the school, ensuring a safer and more convenient route for students and families—demonstrating the family's ongoing dedication to the well-being of the community.
Since its founding, Fondren Middle School has continued to grow and evolve, serving a diverse student body with a focus on academic achievement, character development, and community involvement.
